I woke up this morning with the realization that 2013 was a significant and hyper-emotional year for me. A lot of good things happened and a lot of bad things happened. Regardless, the net effect was that it was a really great year.
I have decided that I would like to present a visual review for your ocular pleasure based on my Instagram posts. And with no further ado, I present 2013: A Visual Review Based on the Ordinary Life of a Most Extraordinary Person, Namely Me. I couldn’t think of a better title…
January
I started training for a half iron distance triathlon in January. It would become my biggest physical accomplishment to date.
February
In February I discovered that I was the fabled Water Beast of ancient lore. After working with a swim coach for only a short period of time, I improved my swim by over 1000%.
March
I went surfing in Costa Rica for one day in March. I had to return home because Deetz’s grandfather had passed away.
April
April saw me compete in the most physically demanding event of my life. The finish left me an emotional wreck for a couple of reasons.
May
May left me wondering where do I go after I finish the hardest feat of my life. Well I surfed and paddled a lot, but a new challenged emerged as well…
June
What a crazy month June was. Sam came into the world like a rushing wind. And just as quickly we found out that something wasn’t right. All’s well that ends well though, as they say.
July
In July I celebrated my one year triathlon anniversary by racing in a triathlon.
August
I guess I was just busy being awesome in August…
September
I had the best triathlon of my career in September, despite being stung by jellyfish three different times.
October
In October I competed in my 9th and last triathlon of my inaugural triathlon season.
November
This was the month that I took on a new coach and started making plans for my 2014 endurance sports season.
December
A lot of great stuff happened in December, but it will all be overshadowed by the loss of one of my best friends. I will miss you Scout.
So there you have it folks. 2013, up and downs. Highs and lows. I said in a Facebook post earlier today that I hope to not have quite as emotional of a year in 2014, but I will, as always, take each day in stride and strive to be the best person I can be.
Fare thee well two thousand thirteen.

Thanks for sharing a glimpse of 2013!
Great recap of the year…. shows how much you’ve done in an interesting way!
Congrats on a great year and cheers to 2014!
