Challenges: I Like Beer and I’m a Snob

I like beer and I am a huge beer snob.

I like dark, full flavor beers.  My favorite beers are New Belgian Brewing’s 1554 and Dogfish Head’s 90 Minute IPA.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

People who read my Plank in My Own Eye blog know that I am actually on a mission to try every Dogfish Head beer that I possible can.

I am getting tingly inside at this very moment.

So here is the challenge.  BEER HAS A TON OF CALORIES!!! The beer I like has between 270 and 300 calories per serving. And I am not going to drink that Miller select or Bud something-another that is supposed to be low-carb or whatever.  I just won’t do it.

So here is the compromise. I just won’t drink a lot. I am not going to deny myself, because I do not want to become bitter about trying to lose weight.  I am just going to make sure I work hard and reward myself in a reasonable fashion. But portion control is going to be the challenge.

Now that all that is cleared up, I have a Dogfish Head Black and Blue chilling in the fridge and I am going to have a glass…

I am a big beer snob as well and couldn’t pass up making a comment. I’ve been using this same strategy – drinking less. Do you like stouts and porters, though? They have quite a few less calories, often under 200 for 12 oz.

I do like stouts and porters. New Belgian 1554 (A Black Ale) is “only” 200 calories. That is pretty decent in prespective. Thanks for commenting! Please subscribe too! 🙂

Yep, picking your spots is the simple (if possibly challenging) answer. Good news is, beer in quantities and frequencies that small actually has some reported health benefits. So think of it as part of your healthy, balanced diet.
