In The Year of the Snake

Hello my lovely and loyal readers. Did you miss me?

I took a bit of a writing hiatus during the holidays. Yes I could have had some guest posts, but to be brutally honest (because you know I will) I didn’t feel like messing with it. It felt GREAT to take a break from writing and not even think about it…

But that time is now over. I have too much to talk about. Too much to tell you guys. So much coolness.

I don’t even know where to start.

Here is a quick snapshot of what the Year of the Snake will have in store.

1. My Third Child is Due in July
LS-ultrasoundI’m going to be a daddy again. Wow. I love my kids so much and I want nothing more in this life than to be a good father to them. To know that I will be bringing another child into this world is completely amazing and electrifying.  I am beyond elated. The cool thing is that there is an interesting advantage that you, the shareholders, will receive unknowingly at this point. I will have several posts between now and the delivery day about the struggles of maintaining a healthy lifestyle when your pregnant wife demands late night hot fudge sundaes and other such sundries…

2. Half Ironman 70.3 Triathlon
O2TI talked about it a bit before the break, but the realness is about to get really real up in here. I am officially registered for the Try Charleston 70.3 on April 20th here in Charleston. This is so much more serious than the sprint triathlon that I did this past summer. That was where I learned how to triathlon.  This upcoming race will be where I learn to be a freaking unstoppable force of pure awesomeness. At least I hope that is what happens. It could very well be that I learn how to be a crumpled pile of messy crying on the side of Sewee Road. Regardless, my training starts on Monday (January 7th – yes, that early…) That should provide enough blog provender that I should not want for a topic for a long time.  Also I am going to start a new blog category explicitly for my triathlon training.  I plan to make an entire post in the next couple of days talking about what led me to make the decision to do this race and my thoughts and feelings on it.

3. Costa Rica Surf Trip
In March (yes, right in the middle of my 70.3 training) I am going to Costa Rica with some guys to go surfing.  My wife literally put a coupon in my Christmas stocking that entitled the bearer (me) to one guilt free trip with my boys to Costa Rica. How ya like them apples? If you haven’t read my previous posts about surfing being one of my ultimate weight loss goals then go back and check them out in order to shed light on the subject. I constantly feel like the biggest kook when I talk about surfing. I am so passionate about it, yet so terrible at it. I plan to rectify that in the Year of the Snake. The guys going with me are great guys and I am so excited to go hang with them in the Pura Vida surfer’s paradise. I plan to get a GoPro before the trip so that there will be plenty of coverage. Having lost the weight that I have so far has really helped me realize my true identity in the water.

4. Losing Weight and Getting Fit
Obviously, as suggested by the name of this blog, I started this website as a means to help hold me accountable to lose weight.  It worked. I have lost a lot of weight. Then for some reason I started slipping on the weight reporting as I focused more on my fitness.  I have almost stopped logging my food completely. And while my fitness level has increased exponentially this past year, I have not lost any weight. Now that being said, I have repeated over and over that there comes a point when the scale becomes an enemy and that you should not focus SOLELY on the number on the scale. I still believe that, but I still need to lose about 30-40 pounds. I HAVE GOT to get back into the routine that helped me lose more than 80 pounds. I have not reached my “goal weight range” of between 225 and 230 pounds. I will get there in the Year of the Snake.

So there are four topics that should provide A LOT of content for my blog over the next year.  What do you think? Leave a comment and tell me if there are other things you want to hear me blabber about.

BY THE WAY.  Make sure to follow me on Instagram if you are on there. I really love IG and I post a lot of stuff there that doesn’t make it on the blog, Facebook or Twitter. It will be good for your soul. I promise.

Peace. Love. Auld Lang Syne.
