Week 56 – Resist Change

Well shareholders, this is not the first weigh in for the rest of my life.

As a matter of fact, I am changing things up for the next few weeks.

For at least the next 4 weeks (maybe 8 ) I am NOT going to have a weekly weigh in. I have spent so much time fretting over the scale for the past several months that I am going to take a break from worrying about what that evil floor-bastard has to say.

This in NO WAY means that I am giving up or quitting my journey towards better health and fitness. I actually believe that this is a new chapter in that journey. I WILL be posting on Thursdays like I always do. I just won’t be documenting my weight.

But fret not my loyal readers. All shall be well.

As I posted about earlier, I sustained a bit of an injury and it has kept me from doing ANY physical activity this week.

And it is killing me.

I have been longing to run across the Cooper River Bridge. I have been longing to swing a kettlebell. I have been wanting to squat and jerk and press and sprint. But I haven’t because I have been hurt.

The fact that I have WANTED to lets me know that it is a part of me now. And I am feeling much better…

I am going to workout like a mad man over the next several weeks. I am also going to eat like a mad man. But I am going to eat clean and healthy. And I am going to workout smart and thoughtful.

And I am NOT going to step on the scale until at least four weeks from today.

It is a big commitment from someone who has claimed a little bit of infamy on the interwebz as a weight loss blogger. I am also completely addicted to weighing myself. To the point that I actually think it is detrimental to my further progress.

I hope that none of you are mad at me for this. But I think that what we will see is a drastic improvement in mental and physical health.

Maybe the scale will even move down in that time.
Hmmm.I guess I won’t know until that time comes.

What do you think about this? Do you support this decision? Let me know what you think…

Beast Face, owt.

YES!!! I broke up with my scale 18 mos ago and guess what? I weigh 25lbs less than I did 18 mos ago as a result. The scale was not my friend at all and I have a feeling that soon you’ll break your plateau too! Congrats!

I think this is a fantastically refreshing change and will help a lot. The fact that you’re craving a work out is amazing. I haven’t been able to go on my runs since FEBRUARY due to my pregger body not really being down with the running. And its interesting how much I miss it (as a stress release, as well). You’ll be back out there soon, and breaking up with your scale is going to be a great change!

I don’t know about staying off the scale for an entire month. I weigh once a week and because I know the kind of damage I could do without that accountability, it could be ugly. But that is me.

Good luck to you. I look forward to hearing how it goes and what happens in 4 weeks.

This is tough! I recently stopped weighing myself daily and switched to weekly. It was absolutely preventing me from losing weight. I had a serious scale addiction and would eat based on the number in the morning…not the right thing to do. Weekly weigh-ins seem to be a good spot for me right now where it’s not too long and I’m dying of curiosity but it’s infrequent enough that the number is not always on my mind.

  • I really look forward to Thursdays and hearing your progress.. I wish I had the nerve to post my progress.. Keep it up Hank!

I think this is a great idea Hank! You’re doing what you need to, you’re just in a weight loss plateau. I think it’ll be good for focus to shift from the scale numbers to how you feel and how your workouts and regular life stuff progresses regardless of the scale!

I’m happy to hear you’re not going to be getting on the scale! I ditched that bitch a few years ago. Do me a favor though, take an initial weigh-in and then do some measurements around your chest (at nipples), belly (at belly button), mid-quad and mid-bicep. Those will be the true numbers that will show you that you DON’T need the scale.

Can’t wait to hear about your progress!
