Shredmill – New 5k PR

So remember when I beat my treadmill 5K personal record and subsequently (albeit accidentally) deleted the photographic proof?

Yeah, I had forgotten about it was well.

But no matter. On February 17th in the year of our Lord two thousand and twelve (also known as “yesterday”), I bested my previous treadmill 5k PR by 30 seconds.

...photostatic proof...

Previously, I ran a 29:45 5k and I was incredibly pleased that I had gotten a sub 30 minute 3.1 miles. But I wasn’t even TRYING to best it yesterday. I just felt like running hard and so i did. But when 27 minutes started rolling around I checked the distance and realized that I was going to beat my previous record. I was pretty happy because over the past couple of weeks I have made a noticeable improvement in my ability to run.  I am pretty comfortable at a 10 minute mile pace now but I think that I will be able to up that over the next two weeks.

It is hard to believe that less than a year ago I had just started running on a treadmill and I wasn’t even able to run for more than a couple of minutes.

I bet there are a lot of you guys out there who would like to be running, but aren’t.  Would it help it I showed you how I got started?

I am working on a video, that I hope to put out this week, in which I am going to show you guys how I got started running and how you can start too.  I have filmed some of it already, but the more I think about it, the more detailed I want to make it so that I can actually HELP people who want to start running but don’t know where to begin.

Please leave a comment below if you are interested in learning how to get started running on the treadmill and are excited about seeing the video I am working on.

I am so envious of you runners, its not even funny. Today though, after several weeks of biking and walking (I’ve logged 169 miles so far this month to give you an idea), I actually jogged a little today. And I mean a little. I only did 1/10th of a mile before I thought either my heart would explode or I would throw up, but next time I do more. And more. And more. I WILL become a runner. It just might take me a while to get there. Today though… that was more than I’ve moved faster then a walk in 16 years.

So yes, post how you got started. Share. I’ll eat it up while I work myself up to a not so laughable distance.

Great job!!! I just want to learn how to run on a dreadmill w/o peeing my pants (TMI)…

I need to run more. I feel like maybe if I ran outside I would do better… but outside doesn’t have a supervised children’s area so Eco wins!

I ‘ve been running and doing interval sprints on the treadmill for awhile now. I feel strong now when I run on the treadmill at 7+mph and with an incline.

I started the same way…a few minutes at a time on the treadmill until I worked up until a full half hour and now am trying to go beyond that – would love to see the video!
