You know something that I learned that other fat people do that I thought was something only I did? I call it “Waiting Until Monday.”
Before I got serious (May 4, 2011) about losing weight I used to say to myself, “I am going to get serious on Monday.” It could have been a Tuesday or Sunday. Monday always seemed like a good day to get started losing weight. But I would never say that I wanted to start getting serious about losing weight immediately.
I would get it in my head that I was going to start on Monday, so in the meantime I would eat whatever I wanted. I would eat probably 4,000 to 5,000 calories per day. I figured that I might as well indulge since Monday would be the start of a new lifestyle for me.
But guess what. Monday would come. I would wake up. I would eat whatever I wanted that day. I would get bummed that I messed up and didn’t get serious. And then I would just say the hell with it because I had already ruined the week. I will just get serious NEXT Monday.
It was always NEXT Monday. On the following Monday the cycle would start over again. And then I would just give up.
Have you ever done that? Kept putting off something that you need to do until you realize that it is 5 years later. 10 years later. Life later.
Now is as good a time as any to get serious. Let’s do this!
Very well said and absolutely true.
And the best part, is your first day of being serious was a Wednesday!
