The Race Season is Upon Us

itsarace-rowan-atkinsonSo I have had some crazy stuff happening at work recently. It has had my mind occupied and has put my triathlon training into a bit of a funk. But you didn’t come here to listen to me complain about work. You came here to listen to me complain about trying to be fit!

I had ALMOST decided NOT to do the Parris Island Sprint triathlon this year because of the “stuff” I had on my plate.  This was my first race last year and really it was my first race as a triathlete. It was the kick off to what ended up as an incredible race season.  My plan was to use Parris Island as a “training” race before I did the Try Charleston 70.3 and I really had no further vision after that. I ended up doing nine triathlons in 2013. I have no idea how that happened.

Well 2014 is getting ready to kick off with Parris Island coming up on Saturday. I have officially registered and I am ready to go. I have thrown off the butterflies of doubt and trepidation and have embraced the fuzzies of knowing that I am going to have a much better time this year. I am coming in to this race in better shape. I am coming with better knowledge of how to have a smart race. And finally, I am going to come into this race with some advice that my buddy Pearce has instilled in me… My body will shut down before it dies. I should go as hard as I can.

So that is what I am going to do. Go as hard as I possibly can.

I’m going to swim like I’m being chased by sharks…

G0153244

And I’m going to bike like I am carrying a heart to a transplant recipient…

G0073069

And I’m going to run like I stole something…

G0802243

And if I don’t come close to passing out when I cross the finish line, then I will know that I DID NOT give it my all.

Until the finish line…

Me. Out.
