So I have had some crazy stuff happening at work recently. It has had my mind occupied and has put my triathlon training into a bit of a funk. But you didn’t come here to listen to me complain about work. You came here to listen to me complain about trying to be fit!
I had ALMOST decided NOT to do the Parris Island Sprint triathlon this year because of the “stuff” I had on my plate. This was my first race last year and really it was my first race as a triathlete. It was the kick off to what ended up as an incredible race season. My plan was to use Parris Island as a “training” race before I did the Try Charleston 70.3 and I really had no further vision after that. I ended up doing nine triathlons in 2013. I have no idea how that happened.
Well 2014 is getting ready to kick off with Parris Island coming up on Saturday. I have officially registered and I am ready to go. I have thrown off the butterflies of doubt and trepidation and have embraced the fuzzies of knowing that I am going to have a much better time this year. I am coming in to this race in better shape. I am coming with better knowledge of how to have a smart race. And finally, I am going to come into this race with some advice that my buddy Pearce has instilled in me… My body will shut down before it dies. I should go as hard as I can.
So that is what I am going to do. Go as hard as I possibly can.
I’m going to swim like I’m being chased by sharks…
And I’m going to bike like I am carrying a heart to a transplant recipient…
And I’m going to run like I stole something…
And if I don’t come close to passing out when I cross the finish line, then I will know that I DID NOT give it my all.
Until the finish line…
Me. Out.
You are going to *rock* at Parris Island! Channel all your work frustrations into the race and just let go. Sometimes that’s really the best thing to do. Good luck :).
Thanks Amy!
Work is a four letter word.
Work?
And here I thought you delegated all work to others to pursue your passion, good luck on Parris Island!
You so funny. 🙂
You work?

Good luck with you race! Attacking it on all fronts, I like it!
That is how the battle is won, right? 🙂
“I am coming with better knowledge of how to have a smart race.” Would you share what this better knowledge is? I’m training for my first tri and trying to soak up all the info I can.
Hey Kris. What I specifically meant by that is I have more knowledge based on my experience from last season. I raced 9 races last year. Some were great, some were not so great. I learned when and where I could push myself harder and I learned what worked for me as far as nutrition and hydration goes. It would be hard to tell you specifically what works for me and expect it to work for you also, but it you have specific questions, I would be more than happy to answer them and tell you what worked for me. Please feel free to use the “contact me” form and shoot me an email and we can start a convo that way. Thanks!
